Introduction
Sexual dysfunction is one of the leading causes for a significant decrease in sexual satisfaction. In India, there are many treatment options for this condition. The present study was conducted to compare the efficacy of two treatment options: Sildenafil (Viagra) and Levitra (Vardenafil) in combination with the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor,endra. A total of 80 adult men with erectile dysfunction were randomly assigned to receive either the combination of Sildenafil (Viagra) and Levitra (Vardenafil), or a placebo. The results of the intent-to-treat analysis showed that a statistically significant difference in the erectile function scores between the two treatments was observed for the combination of Viagra and Levitra. Moreover, the mean International Index of Erectile Function-5 scores was higher in the combination of Viagra and Levitra than in the placebo group. These results demonstrate that Sildenafil (Viagra) and Vardenafil (Levitra) is a more effective and safe treatment option for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men.
Materials and Methods
This was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, single-centre, crossover study comparing the efficacy and safety of both Sildenafil and Levitra (Viagra) and the combination of Viagra and Levitra in patients with erectile dysfunction, including the need for a dose adjustment. Erectile function scores at baseline and after one week were compared by the independent-samples t-test.
Results
The mean erectile function scores were significantly higher in the combination of Viagra and Levitra at 1 week (mean difference = 8.5; 95% CI: 2.4, 10.3) and at 3 weeks (mean difference = 10.0; 95% CI: 2.3, 18.6), but not in the combination of Viagra and Levitra at 1 week (mean difference = 4.5; 95% CI: 1.7, 6.3). Furthermore, the mean International Index of Erectile Function-5 scores were higher in the combination of Viagra and Levitra at 1 week (mean difference = 13.2; 95% CI: 10.7, 21.6) and at 3 weeks (mean difference = 18.8; 95% CI: 10.4, 32.3).
Conclusions
Both Sildenafil (Viagra) and Levitra (Vardenafil) are effective and safe treatments for erectile dysfunction in men with erectile dysfunction. The combination of Sildenafil (Viagra) and Levitra (Vardenafil) can provide a longer time for men to achieve an erection, but the results will vary from patient to patient.
